About the workshop

This is a poetic algorithm workshop using the Processing software. The goal is to explore different processes for generating text and/or images from a custom word bank based on each participant’s chosen theme. Using a few algorithms based on sentence structures, repetition, randomness, Perlin noise, image and color recognition, etc., it becomes possible to generate evocative, poetic, and sometimes strange compositions. Unlike artificial intelligence, the techniques presented do not rely on “average-based” approaches, such as Markov chains or other statistical processes. During the workshop, participants will develop a thematic lexical field and experiment with algorithms to create one (but probably several) compositions in the form of digital images or texts.

About the instructor

This workshop is led by Roby Provost Blanchard. Roby plays with software and programming to create experiences somewhere between video games, documentaries and Internet art.

This workshop is given in french but a translation to english will be available. During the event, no interpretation for the Deaf will be offered.
