About the installation

World Premiere

As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] and Marie LeBlanc Flanagan present Light Play, an immersive and participatory installation that transforms Place de la Paix into an interactive playground.

Beams of light animate the space’s concrete tiles, inviting the public to play, explore, and interact. Using a motion capture technology developed by the SAT, the installation evolves in real time in response to participants’ movements and interactions.

Developed through a co-creation approach, the project was created in collaboration with the community and people in vulnerable situations. Jeu(x) de lumières aims to be a space for encounter and exchange for anyone who lives in, frequents, or visits Place de la Paix. By bringing digital art into the public space and collaborating with the community, we hope to make spaces for connection at the heart of the Quartier des spectacles.

About the artist

Marie LeBlanc Flanagan^CA/QC is an artist working in the playful spaces between people, especially related to connection and community. Marie builds experimental video games, playful installations, and cooperative experiences and has an enduring fondness for the possibilities of trash. Some of their hijinks include Drone Day, Weird Canada, Imaginary Residency, Toronto Games Week, and Game Arts International Assembly.

For 30 years, the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] is a non-profit organization dedicated to digital culture. With its triple mission as a center for the arts, training and research, the SAT is a gathering space for diverse talent, curiosity, and knowledge. It is recognized internationally for its active, leading role in developing technologies for immersive creation, mixed realities and telepresence. The Society for Arts and Technology is a place of collective learning that holds the promise of exploring technology to infuse it with more meaning, magic and humanity.
