About the installation

World premiere

Public Space, Latent Space (2025) is an immersive installation merging artificial intelligence with audiovisual creation, presented within a sculptural, multidimensional cube-shaped screen. Surrounded by an eight-channel spatial sound system, visitors enter a sensory environment where image, sound, and machine intelligence interact in real time.

At the core of the installation, an AI agent evolves through live audience interaction. Viewers are invited to co-compose the work by offering real-time feedback on the sonic and visual atmospheres. Using reinforcement learning, the system adapts to the public’s preferences, generating an ever-changing audiovisual experience.

Credits
Created by Victor Drouin-Trempe and Danny Perreault, Public Space, Latent Space is co-produced with MUTEK. Development and research contributions were made by Étienne Montenegro, Vincent Cusson, David Drouin, and Maxime Simard. The work draws on research conducted at UQAM’s mXlab (directed by Sofian Audry), using a custom tool developed by Hugo Scurto and the ISMM team at IRCAM-STMS.

About the artists

Danny Perreault ^CA/QCis a digital media artist and professor at UQAM. His work in light scenography, video-laser installations, and interactive art has been shown internationally. Co-founder of the mXlab and researcher at Hexagram, he explores collaborative creation through audiovisual jams and projects like Popmolle and Trëma.

Victor Drouin-Trempe ^CA/QCis an artist, researcher and professor of sound creation and philosophy. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Arts Studies and Practices, and his research focuses on exploring the characteristics of what might be termed “living sound”.
